Your mental health is vitally important. CAPS provides a variety of options to meet your mental health needs. Following are options for you to choose from to see a counselor.
Urgent and Virtual Options
- Urgent Counseling
- CAPS counselors are available for urgent matters from 10:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Call 734-764-8312 or come into the CAPS Central Campus Office (4th Floor, Michigan Union). Urgent counseling is available on a first come, first served basis.
- Virtual Counseling
- All students have access to Uwill, a virtual counseling service that connects students to a therapist of their choice via the mode of their choice - video, phone, chat or messaging. Teletherapy services are available during the day, as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays. Go to Uwill and register using your UM email address. UM students get six free sessions per year.
- After-hours Urgent Counseling
- Whenever CAPS is closed you can call 734-764-8312 to connect with a mental health professional.
Informal Options
- Let’s Talk is a free program that supports students starting their mental health journeys. It provides casual meetings with counselors at different campus locations. Following are locations, times, and a sign up link. (Drop-ins are welcome but scheduling is encouraged to reserve your time.)
- Mondays in Trotter: 11:00am - 1:00pm with Markie Silverman, Ph.D., LP, and Janelis Turner, LLMSW Room 2035 in Trotter Multicultural Center - Sign Up

Scheduling Options
- CAPS Counselor in the Central Office. Schedule an appointment online to meet with an Initial Specialist who will work with you to determine the best next step in addressing your mental health needs. You can also stop by our office on the fourth floor of the Michigan Union or call us at 734-764-8312 for assistance in scheduling an initial consultation. Virtual and in-person appointments are available.
- CAPS Counselors in Your School or College. CAPS has therapists embedded in the various Schools and Colleges. Follow this link to find your embedded therapist, then email them directly about scheduling an appointment.
Immediate Crisis Resources 24/7/365
- If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911.
- Go to the U-M Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) in person or call PES at 734-996-4747
- Call or text 988, the national suicide and crisis lifeline
