Stop Student Suicide

  • What if……. the number of deaths by suicide was zero each year?
  • How can we address and accomplish a culture of caring for students in any level of psychological distress?
  • How can we promote and give tools to enact 2 central themes of “hope” and “resiliency”?

These questions have driven CAPS to do something more around suicide prevention for our campus.

Uniquely Michigan

At Michigan, we know how to develop a vision into action that makes a difference.  When students, faculty and staff are engaged, exciting things happen here.  We can work to stop student suicide in a new and unique way--by connecting with one another.  We are the leaders and best, and in this spirit, we can take care of one another.

CAPS’ initiative is focused on increasing hope and resilience for students who are struggling with thoughts of suicide.

You and your colleagues can make a difference.

Get Inspired

Hang in there! You can do it. I believe in you.

“I came across this message of hope today at a drinking fountain on the first floor of Mason Hall.  It especially caught my attention and hit home because one of my brother's friends incidentally committed suicide this past Sunday.  As you can imagine, it's been quite a rocky week.  I really appreciated this note of encouragement and would love to continue to see more of these all around campus,” Anonymous student.

Consultation Services

Consultation Services For Student Concerns

Often, you as a staff or faculty person will be one of the first persons to find out that a student is having personal problems that are interfering with their academic success or daily lives. The student may come to you for academic advising, or visit during office hours, send you an email, etc. and share personal concerns with you.

Service Delivery

The activities done by the AAPIC doctoral internship candiadate in the key service areas of CAPS like clinical services, outreach/consultation and training.
