U-M Counseling and Psychological Services

Embedded Model

In 2014, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) embarked on a new way of effectively and efficiently distributing mental health services for students across the schools and colleges by creating a community-based model - placing CAPS clinicians inside some of the schools and colleges, known as the embedded model.  CAPS counselors are now placed in 8 different Schools and Colleges at UM.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students. Twenty-five percent know of someone who has died as a result of suicide and/or 40% know of someone who has attempted. But suicide is preventable. To honor National Suicide Prevention Month, CAPS encourages increased awareness about prevention to stop student suicide. It is important to know the warning signs and resources, listen to one another, show concern, and be willing to help. No matter how difficult things may seem, there is always hope. One conversation encouraging hope and resiliency can make a difference.
