Quick Tips for Reaching Out to a Student

  • Talk to the student in private when both of you have time and are not rushed.
  • Listen to thoughts and feelings in a sensitive, non-threatening way.
  • Express your concern in specific nonjudgmental terms that reflect your concern for the well being of the student.
  • Let the student know that you believe a consultation with a staff member at CAPS could be helpful.

Graduation Transitions

Graduation is both an exciting and stressful time for any student. It involves saying goodbye to a way of life and a familiar place.   Graduation may also be saying hello to new exciting possibilities, moving to a new location, new friends, or a challenging graduate/professional program. It might be helpful to view this significant transition as an earned rite of passage into a new phase of adulthood.
