How to Create an Environment that Promotes Wellbeing

Note: All Orgs are different, consider these suggestions as they apply to your ORG!

  • Establish yourself as someone members can seek out + trust

    • How you can do this:
      • If you are comfortable, share your contact information with group members
      • Invite members to reach out if they need support
  • If this is a big group, consider establishing several point people for group members to check in with!

  • Take a holistic approach to allowing absences

    • Take note of if someone has a lot of absences and check in
  • Provide content warnings when discussing serious topics
  • Feel-out group needs
    • If many are overwhelmed by school:
      • Maybe allow for a study session
  • Send out meeting notes after club meeting

  • Encourage group connection

    • Make sure that all members feel they are connected to one another
      • Start meetings with check-in or icebreaker
        • Ex:
          • First to five
          • Rose, bud, thorn
          • High and low of your day
          • Rate your day out of ten
          • Pair and share
  • Host fun events outside of regular meeting time

  • Check in with members about self care!
    • Are you fueling your body?
    • Are you sleeping enough?
    • Are you giving yourself breaks?
    • Are you keeping up to date with your work?
    • Are you asking for help when needed?
    • Are you taking time for yourself?
  • Include resources/tips in slideshow
  • Do something tangible!
    • Pack goodie bags for members during finals
    • Sweet treats
    • Words of encouragement
