Approach to Therapy:
I value understanding people's identities and experiences in socio-cultural-political context while collaborating to build a supportive therapeutic connection that enables students to talk authentically about difficult topics and experiences and challenge themselves to grow, heal, and connect. My therapeutic approach is integrative, evidence-based, and grounded in feminist multicultural, relational cultural, and acceptance and commitment therapy approaches.
Approach to Wellness:
I feel re-energized by connecting with supportive community and nature. I believe relationships are the meaning of life, and I value building community, connecting across differences, and collaborating with others to cultivate empowerment and social change. I love practicing mindfulness, crocheting, watching tv and movies, being physically active, listening to music, and any opportunity to just be in nature.
Supervisory Style:
I use a developmental, feminist multicultural approach to supervision in which I try to meet interns and posters where they are in their knowledge and skills and help them work toward their professional goals. I really value practicing collaboration, transparency, appropriate self-disclosure, and considering how power dynamics and our identities, statuses, and experiences influence our supervision relationship, therapeutic work, and general life experience. I like to watch recordings of supervisees' therapy work with supervisees, talk about what supervisees feel they're doing well, what mistakes they think they've made, and offer feedback in a supportive atmosphere to help them become the professionals they are trying to be.
