2008-2009 Annual Report University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services

INTRODUCTION

University counseling centers across the country continue to play a unique and integral role on college campuses to help students take positive pathways to mental health. The college student population needs a combination of traditional clinical service (i.e., such as a hospital setting or from a private practitioner) focused in the context of college life and in student development theory and practice.

Crisis Response Team

The CAPS office houses a Crisis Response Team that focuses on the mental health needs of students and offers guidance to staff and faculty in times of crisis or trauma. The multi-disciplinary team approach to campus responses is based on Critical Incident Stress Management theory, best-practice standards, and experience. Interventions are tailored to meet the needs of students.
