U-M Counseling and Psychological Services

Call for Proposals

The University of Michigan’s Counseling and Psychological Services (U-M CAPS) is excited to announce we are now accepting program proposals for the 2022 Big Ten Counseling Centers Conference being held in Ann Arbor, Michigan from February 23-25.

The theme of the 2022 conference is “Pump Up the Joy” with an intentional focus on reflection (e.g., where have we been, where we are now, and where we’re headed), (re)connection (e.g., creating new connections, reuniting and supporting each other) and reenergizing (e.g., reigniting our student-centered passion for clinical, training, and outreach). We hope to make this gathering as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible, while also sustaining ourselves personally and professionally.

We also recognize that this will be the first time we come together in-person as the Big 10 since the multiple pandemics significantly changed (and continue to affect) our lives. In upholding our counseling center values, we remain committed to uplifting and celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion in all facets of our work and throughout this conference. We acknowledge the realities of our environment and the intersections with our multiple social identities, our students, and the layered systems we are in. We want to highlight the challenges we face, as well as identify the joy in our work.

Proposal Submission: Please consider submitting a program proposal that addresses the conference theme of “Pump Up the Joy: Reflection, (Re)connection, & Reenergizing.” Proposals should focus on various aspects of our counseling center work, such as clinical service, training, outreach, administration, diversity, equity and inclusion, anti-racism, campus collaborations, student and staff engagement, and community care. Proposals that address this year’s conference theme will be given priority consideration.

Proposal acceptance is considered provisional pending confirmation of a paid registration from the first author. Please provide all requested information on the proposal form, as incomplete proposals will not be considered for selection. If your proposal is accepted, the presentation title, presenter information, and abstract you provide will be included in the conference program—please be sure the information you submit is accurate. More than one proposal may be submitted; however, multiple acceptances will be reviewed with consideration for conference schedule limitations.

There are two options to presenting at this conference:

  • 75-minute presentations in a traditional format
  • Poster Presentation - posters will be displayed throughout the entire conference with a designated time for presenters to engage with conference attendees during Thursday breakfast. We encourage poster presenters to engage with the audience as much as possible through experiential activities (e.g., use of QR codes to learn more, giveaways, questions for the audience, etc).

Proposals are due by 11:59pm. Eastern Time on Friday, October 29th, 2021. Notification of proposal decisions will be emailed by December 3, 2021. All workshops will be scheduled on Thursday and Friday (February 24 and 25). To allow as many presenters to participate as possible, we may ask you to consider collaborating with others who propose similar topics.

**Proposal deadline extended to 5:00pm Eastern Time on Friday, November 12th, 2021**

Continuing Education: The University of Michigan plans to offer continuing education and CMEs for our conference for social workers and psychologists.

We look forward to seeing you in Ann Arbor this February!
